Storytime is an unlimited children's book subscription service in the United States. Once you join, we send four books to your door step that you can read and enjoy for as long as you’re a member. When you’re ready for new ones, send one or more books back to us, and we’ll send more your way.
Membership is $39 per month. You get four books at a time. Hold on to the books as long as you like. Send them back whenever you’re ready, and we’ll send more right away!

The short answer is however often you’d like. We’ll send four books to you. Send as many back whenever you’re ready. In other words, send 1 back to us, and we’ll send 1 back to you; send 4 back to us, and we’ll send 4 back to you.
It usually takes 3-7 days for the books to get to you. When you’re ready to send books back, log into your account to let us know which ones you’re sending and pick new themes to replace those. We’ll start processing books for your new themes as soon as USPS picks up your package.
With an active membership, you can read and enjoy the books for as long you’d like. If you want to purchase a book, you can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for pricing information.
Our team reviewed thousands of books to find the best of the best (and we’re reading more every day). Of these, about 20% ultimately make it into our collection. We don’t have special deals with publishers on books we select. We truly scour anywhere and everywhere to find the best books we can.
Reading with your child is a powerful tool for parents to help teach kids about themselves and the world. With that in mind, we let you choose what books we send by picking specific themes (such as instilling grit, helping a child understand a loved one’s illness, prepping your child for the first day at school, etc.). Our team hand selects the best books to help you address those themes. Don’t have time to select themes? We get it, and we’re happy to do that for you!
We currently offer two age ranges: 3-5 and 5-7. We hope to offer more soon!
Absolutely! Each book on your virtual bookshelf has a toggle for ages 3-5 or 5-7, so you can select which age group you want for each theme you request.
We currently focus mostly on picture books but also have some board books in our inventory. Generally speaking, picture books are those where both the illustrations and words play key roles in telling the story. Illustrations are at least on every other page, if not every page. Board books are similar, except a bit smaller with thicker pages for sturdiness. Within picture books, there are two categories:
Early Picture Books:These books have vibrant illustrations with simpler stories that are perfect for helping your child start to understand the world, emotions, and experiences. We may include books with illustrations only, because these can be especially helpful for a child to pick up on the feelings, emotions, and experiences of characters solely through pictures.
Advanced Picture Books:These books still have great illustrations but also more complex plots to engage your child. As your child starts to meet more children and experience new things, these books can lead to thoughtful conversations between you and your child.
We don’t have a hard and fast rule that children aged 3-5 will get all early picture books and children aged 5-7 will get all advanced picture books. A 3-year old can connect with an advanced picture book just as much as a 7-year old can connect with an early picture book. As such, you will most likely receive a mix of early and advanced picture books.
Most likely both. The books are shared among our Storytime members. With that said, any book you receive will be in good condition as we perform detailed inspections upon every return and consistently add new books to our inventory.
No. Any book you receive will be in at least good condition. We perform a quality check of all books when they come back and before they go out to ensure that no pages are missing or torn and that the books don’t have any water damage, writing, or highlighting in them.
The books may have some wear or “reading scars” as we like to call them. And to be honest, we love this. We think it shows how many homes that book has visited; how many bedtime story routines it’s been a part of; and how many children it’s inspired or helped.
We love that a single book can have an incredibly positive impact on so many families! With that in mind, please treat the books with lots of love and care — no writing or coloring in them, no tearing pages, and no spilling liquids on them. We want these books to meet as many families as possible!
All that said, we understand that the books can't stay 'like new' forever, so we fully expect some wear with each use. These "reading scars", as we call them, highlight just how many families have loved that book.
Accidents happen! Don't worry! On the first occurrence, just send the book back to us, and we’ll happily waive any fee. On any subsequent occurrence, we’ll just charge whatever our replacement fee is for that particular book (and you're welcome to keep it). Just shoot us an email at email@example.com to let us know!
When we receive books, we wipe them down and perform a quality check to make sure no pages are missing or torn and that the books don’t have any water damage, writing, or highlighting in them.
Our world is dealing with an unprecedented situation that has caused many of us to reevaluate our priorities and take a sharper look at the way we do things. Here are a few of the extra precautions we take to keep your family healthy and safe:
Our team members always wear gloves and masks when handling the books. In addition, we treat our team well and provide plenty of sick leave. We do not allow team members to come in when they don't feel well.
We hope to find unique books so this doesn’t happen often. However, the good news is that, given the unlimited nature of the service, you can send it back to us immediately, and we’ll send a replacement to you as soon as possible.
Nope! We’ll keep track of the books you’ve received and will make sure you don’t get any you’ve had in the past.
With that said, we think it’s totally possible that a book you’ve already had may be relevant again to you in the future. If that’s the case and you want to read it again, send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know if there is a specific book you’d like to get in your next shipment.

Our goal is to surprise you! While we include classics as appropriate, we try to find books that you likely won’t already have on your shelf. If we do send you something you already have, you can always package it up and send it right back to us, and we'll send another one to you as soon as possible.

Please note that you will need to return or purchase all of your books before your subscription renewal date to avoid being billed for the next month. If you return after that date, you will be charged for the next month, and the cancellation will be effective starting the month after.

No worries! Just send us an email at email@example.com and let us know you need another label. We’ll email a new one that you can print and place in the label pouch.
To reduce our environmental impact, we send the books in a fully reusable bag. (1) Sign in to your account. (2) From your virtual bookshelf, select the books that are ready for pick up and pick your new themes to fill those slots. (3) Place the books back in the reusable shipping bag. (4) Grab the prepaid shipping label from the interior pocket and place it in the outside shipping label pouch. (5) Place the bag on your doorstep, and USPS will pick it up!
While you definitely don’t have to, if you’d prefer to drop the package off at the post office, you can always walk in and drop it off at the USPS counter with other prepaid items.
When you first join Storytime, we’ll ship out your first bag within 1-2 business days. Once it’s shipped, it usually takes 5-7 days to get to you. You’ll get an email with a tracking number so you can see the estimated delivery date.
Please note that shipments to Alaska and Hawaii can sometimes take up to 13 days. If you’d like to upgrade to Priority Mail service, please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Before sending your books back, you can sign in to your account to let us know which books you're sending back and to pick your new themes. As soon as USPS picks up your bag, we’ll start processing your next books and will ship them out in 1-2 business days. It’ll take 5-7 days for the books to get to you.

Rest assured that we’re doing all we can to reduce waste! We’ve reduced our environmental impact in two key ways. First, we use reusable shipping bags. These bags last for at least 40 shipments (and hopefully even longer!).
Second, you get to use our books, have meaningful conversations with your children about important issues, and then send them back when you’re ready. This saves you space and clutter around the house. Multiply that by all Storytime subscribers, and we think this service is doing a ton of good!

We accept all major credit cards and affiliated debit cards as well as PayPal. Cash, check, and prepaid credit cards are not accepted. We partner with Stripe Payments to keep your card information secure and to handle your monthly billing.
After joining Storytime, we’ll charge the card on file on the day you join. That date becomes your subscription renewal date. Your credit card will be charged that day (or the next business day) every month thereafter.
